Nguyen Tat Thanh University announces the information of the admission method by the results of the Competency Assessment Exam of VNU-HCM

1. Exam Structure:

The competency assessment test of VNU-HCM consists of 120 multiple-choice questions with total time of 150 minutes.

The results of the competency assessment test are determined by modern multiple-choice methods according to Question Response Theory. The score for each question is weighted differently depending on the difficulty and discriminant level of the question. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, of which the maximum score for the language use part is 400 points, the part of math, logical thinking and data analysis is 300 points, the problem solving part is 500 points.

2. Exam time and location:

The National University Exam is organized in two phases:

a. Phase 1: March 29, 2020 (Sunday) at:

  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Mekong Delta area: Can Tho
  • Central region: Nha Trang

b. Phase 2: July 5, 2020 (Sunday) at:

  •  Ho Chi Minh City
  •  Mekong Delta area: Can Tho
  •  Central region: Nha Trang

3. Key timelines:

a. Phase 1:

  • January 6, 2020: Open registration of energy assessment;
  • February 28, 2020: End of registration for energy assessment;
  • March 29, 2020: Organize the competency assessment exam (official);
  • April 14, 2020: Announcement of the results of the competency assessment exam;

b. Phase 2:

  • April 15, 2020: Open registration of energy assessment;
  • May 30, 2020: End of registration for energy assessment;
  • July 5, 2020: Organize the competency assessment exam (official);
  • July 12, 2020: Announcement of the results of the competency assessment exam.

4. Registration for the exam:

Candidates register for the exam and apply for admission at VNU-HCM’s online registration portal (click here).

Candidates can pay the registration and examination fees by one of the following methods: direct payment, bank transfer or the MoMo Wallet application.

In 2020, Nguyen Tat Thanh University plans to enroll 6,250 students for 48 majors of formal undergraduate education according to 5 admission methods including:

  • Method 1: Admission of the results of the national high school exam in 2020 according to the subject combination.
  • Method 2: Admission test results meet one of the following criteria (in particular, the health sector needs more requirements to ensure the quality of input regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training):

– The combined score of the entrance exams of grade 12 is 18 or higher.

– The total grade point average of the whole year 10, 11 and the average score of semester 1 in grade 12 is 18 or more.

– The grade point average for the whole year of 12th grade is 6.0 or higher.

  • Method 3: entrance exam organized by Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
  • Method 4: Admission based on the result of the competency assessment test of the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Method 5: direct offer, priority will be given to candidates who have won the National Excellent Student Competition, the National Science and Technology Competition, the Asean and International Skills Competition; selection of foreign candidates who are eligible to study or under the nomination category.

In particular, in 2020, NTTU enrolls 4 new majors, bringing the total number of formal undergraduate majors to 48 in 5 knowledge blocks: Health, Economics, Engineering – Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and Fine Arts – Art.
